Common Email Problems

Enabling SMTP Authorization

One of the most common problems with email is not having SMTP authorization enabled. SMTP authorization is essentially just your computer confirming for the server who it is thats sending before you send an email.

To turn on SMTP Authentication in:

Microsoft Office Outlook

From the inbox click on Tools>Email Accounts

Then Select 'View or Change Existing' and click next

Double Click on the Nucleus email account

Click the more settings button

Select the outgoing email tab

Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' and click 'OK'

Then Click 'next'

 Outlook Express:

From the inbox click on Tools>Accounts

In the Accounts window select the mail tab

And double click on the Nucleus email account.

Then select the servers tab

And put a check mark in the My server requires authentication check box

Click OK and close the accounts window.

Windows Mail

From the inbox click on Tools>Accounts

and double click on the Nucleus email account.

Then select the servers tab And put a check mark in the My server requires authentication check box. Click OK and close the accounts window.

Mac Mail

From the inbox click on the Mail menu and go to Preferences

From there make sure you click on the accounts tab and select the Nucleus mail account in the left hand menu. From there click on the Server Settings button in the Outgoing Mail Server section

From here change the authentication type to Password, enter your email address in the username field, and then type your password in the password field. Finally, click ok and close the preferences window.

Difficulty with Security Applications

Another common problem is being unable to send or receive due to an antivirus program either delaying or outright blocking the sending of an email. The common error in this case is a message saying the connection has been unexpectedly terminated or the server timed out.

To disable Norton Internet security 2006 virus scanning

From the main Protection Center menu, click the Security Basics link

Then click the Email Scanning

And click Turn Email Scanning Off

* For other antivirus programs please see Visionary - Disable Email Scanning
